Sint-Truiden – In Sint-Truiden, the Water Group completed the final connection of the Koekestraat water pipeline early on August 26, 2025, after APC resumed works, ensuring a reliable supply amid drought conditions, reports 24brussels.
As reported by VRT News, the Water Group is finalizing a significant water pipeline project near Koekestraat. The project involves the installation of a new pipeline. On August 26, 2025, workers completed the final connection ahead of schedule to prevent any interruptions in the water supply.
Reasons for the Early Completion of the Koekestraat Pipeline
Officials noted that increased water usage due to rising temperatures and reduced rainfall has put additional strain on the water supply. The early completion of the pipeline serves as a precautionary measure to avert a potential shortage.
De Watergroep is finalizing the last stage of a major water project at the intersection of Koekestraat and Naamsevest. This work involves the final connection in a network where new water pipes have been installed across the neighborhood.
The operation will continue throughout the day, requiring the temporary closure of the first section of Koekestraat to all traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists, for safety reasons. A large container has been placed in the work area.
Residents were informed in advance about the work to help them plan accordingly. De Watergroep emphasized that these measures are critical for completing the final connection safely and efficiently.
The water pipeline project in Sint-Truiden’s Koekestraat commenced in January 2025. APC, contracted by De Watergroep, began transferring household connections from the old water line to the new one on April 22, 2025. However, the mayor halted the work on the same day due to a lack of permits for the contractor and inadequate notice to residents. Following proper approvals and improved communication, the project resumed.
On August 21, 2025, a planned interruption of the water supply affected all addresses from 4 to 82 along Koekestraat as part of the final connection work. The project was completed on August 26, 2025, with the final connection made early to mitigate potential water supply challenges in the area.
