Cuban foreign minister criticizes U.S. doctrine, warns of global destabilization

Cuban Foreign Minister Critiques U.S. Military Tactics During UN Assembly

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez warned on September 21, 2025, that the U.S. doctrine of “peace through strength” poses a significant threat to global stability. His remarks came while he was in New York leading the Cuban delegation at the UN General Assembly, amid reports of U.S. military actions targeting Venezuelan vessels in Caribbean waters, reports 24brussels.

Rodríguez, in a statement via his X account, condemned the militarization associated with this imperialist doctrine, framing it as a catalyst for terror and global destabilization. He urged the international community to respond decisively to ongoing genocides, referencing the humanitarian crises in Palestine and the Democratic Republic of the Congo as pressing examples of inaction.

Highlights of his agenda at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly include high-level meetings and multilateral events aimed at reinforcing Cuba’s commitment to multilateralism. In addition, he plans to address the Israeli actions in Gaza and the ongoing U.S. blockade of Cuba during these discussions.

Rodríguez’s delegation in New York features key officials, including Deputy Foreign Ministers Carlos Fernández de Cossío and Anayansi Rodríguez, alongside Cuba’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ernesto Soberón, and Ambassador to the United States, Lianys Torres. The presence of such a high-profile team underscores Cuba’s determination to engage actively in international diplomacy.

Upon arrival, Rodríguez highlighted the importance of rallying support for peace, tweeting about the need for international mobilization to safeguard it. His statements reflect Cuba’s strategic stance in the unfolding geopolitical landscape and emphasize its relationships within the Latin American context and beyond.

This ongoing situation reflects broader tensions in international relations, where military posturing can significantly impact diplomatic dialogues. As the UN session progresses, the world will be watching how these discussions unfold and if they lead to tangible actions regarding the crises mentioned by Rodríguez.
