Honduras finalizes electoral census with 6.5 million voters ahead of November elections

Honduras Prepares for Elections with New Voter Registration

The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Honduras has announced the completion of the electoral census period, paving the way for 6.5 million citizens to participate in the general elections scheduled for November 30, 2025, reports 24brussels.

This election process marks a significant milestone as it includes 500,000 new young voters casting their ballots for the first time, alongside an additional 500,000 Hondurans residing abroad, primarily in the United States.

The authorities at the National Registry of Persons (RNP) indicated that the collection of voter records wrapped up on August 16, followed by a thorough auditing process. This initiative is aimed at eliminating fraudulent activities identified in prior elections, such as registering deceased individuals in the voting rolls.

RNP officials assert that past irregularities—reported by families discovering deceased relatives’ names on voter lists—will be addressed to restore confidence in the electoral system. The last internal elections, which saw 5.9 million participants, underscore the necessity for transparency.

Political parties across the nation will vie for critical positions, including the presidency, congressional representatives, members of the Central American Parliament, and local mayors, during the upcoming elections on November 30.
