Club Brugge secures 4-1 victory against AS Monaco to start Champions League campaign

Club Brugge secured a decisive 4-1 victory against AS Monaco on Thursday night, marking the second win for a Belgian team in the opening week of the Champions League group stage, reports 24brussels.

The match started on a challenging note for Brugge, as they conceded an early penalty. Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet’s exceptional save, however, allowed the Belgian side to regain their footing. Following this pivotal moment, Brugge took command of the match, with Nicolo Tresoldi, Raphael Onyedika, Hans Vanaken, and Mamadou Diakhon all contributing to the scoreline, while Monaco’s Ansu Fati, making his debut, netted a late consolation goal in stoppage time.

This victory follows Union Saint-Gilloise’s success earlier in the week, where they triumphed 3-1 over Dutch champions PSV, providing Belgian clubs with a perfect start in the competition.

Looking ahead, Club Brugge will face Atalanta on Tuesday, 30 September, while Union Saint-Gilloise will square off against Newcastle the following day.
