In the current political climate, the focus has shifted toward the systemic misuse of public funds:

Municipality Scrutiny: Recent raids by the Lahav 433 (Israel’s “FBI”) have targeted corruption in municipalities with large Haredi populations (such as Ashdod and Rishon Lezion).7 These investigations often look at how construction contracts are awarded to businesses that then kick back funds through religious “foundations.”
Tax Evasion Culture: A recurring theme in Israeli court cases is the historical cultural justification for tax evasion—the idea that the secular state is an “alien” entity.
