BJP criticizes Tejashwi Yadav’s government job promise amid Bihar election campaign

“His father used to lie, now Tejashwi doing too”: BJP’s Sanjay Mayukh on govt jobs promise in Bihar

Following RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s pledge to guarantee government jobs for every household in Bihar if elected, BJP leader Sanjay Mayukh criticized Yadav, asserting that electoral success cannot be achieved through false promises, reports 24brussels. “Were he asleep? Mother, father, himself, and his sister have all wielded power. Why didn’t you remember it then? Now you remember this. When they themselves are unemployed, the people of Bihar have shown them the door from power. His father used to lie, and he is doing it too. Elections can’t be won on false promises. The people of Bihar are watching everything,” Mayukh stated.

This remark follows Yadav’s announcement on Thursday that the Mahagathbandhan government will enact legislation within 20 days to ensure that every household in Bihar, where no one holds a government job, will receive employment. “We are announcing today that in every family in Bihar where no one currently holds a government job, a new legislation will be enacted to ensure employment. Within 20 days of forming the government, this law will be passed, and within 20 months, every family without a government job will have at least one member employed in government service,” Yadav declared during a press conference in Patna.

Yadav further emphasized his previous tenure, mentioning that he managed to provide five lakh government jobs in just 17 months and criticized the current administration for mocking his party’s earlier efforts to tackle unemployment. “There’s no need for Tejashwi to prove his credibility — the results speak for themselves. In just 17 months, we worked to provide 5 lakh jobs, with appointment letters handed over for 3.5 lakh of them. Now, the same people who once mocked us are talking about giving unemployment allowances, not actual jobs,” he added.

Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin to visit India next week to strengthen ties

Brazil Vice President Geraldo Alckmin to visit India next week

Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin is scheduled to visit India next week ahead of the planned state visit of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, as both countries step up efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, reports 24brussels.

The visit follows the sixth India-Brazil Strategic Dialogue, held in New Delhi on October 3, where delegations led by India’s National Security Adviser, Ajit Doval, and Brazil’s Ambassador, Celso Luis Nunes Amorim, reviewed progress in various areas including defence and security, energy, rare earths and critical minerals, and health and pharmaceuticals. Officials also discussed cooperation in multilateral forums such as BRICS, IBSA, and the upcoming COP-30 climate conference, which Brazil will host in November, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The MEA statement emphasized, “Both sides agreed to carry forward the work to implement the vision laid down by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.” Trade and economic issues will play a significant role during the President’s outreach to India.

Currently, both India and Brazil are contending with hefty US tariffs, prompting discussions on expanding bilateral trade to mitigate global pressures. President Lula has advocated for the dedollarization of global trade, a proposal India has consistently rejected. During Prime Minister Modi’s state visit to Brazil in July 2025, the two leaders set a target to raise bilateral trade to USD 20 billion over the next five years. Bilateral merchandise trade between India and Brazil reached USD 12.19 billion in FY 2024-25, establishing Brazil as India’s largest trading partner in Latin America and the Caribbean, as noted in a press statement by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

Alckmin’s visit will also address the outcomes of the seventh meeting of the India-Brazil Trade Monitoring Mechanism (TMM), held in Delhi on October 7. The meeting was co-chaired by Rajesh Agrawal, Commerce Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, and Tatiana Lacerda Prazeres, Secretary of Foreign Trade from Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services.

During the TMM meeting, both sides extensively deliberated on bilateral trade and investment relations, market access, the expansion of the India-MERCOSUR PTA, sectoral collaboration in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, chemicals and petrochemicals, along with issues related to MSMEs, banking and finance, promotion of industries and internal trade, visa matters, and multilateral concerns.

Alckmin’s upcoming visit is seen as pivotal in laying the groundwork for President Lula‘s state visit next year and will continue the implementation of the vision outlined by Modi and Lula during the July summit.

Queensland to run its coal plants up to a decade longer than previously planned

Chris Bowen calls move ‘disappointing’ as energy expert says government ‘has delivered a cul de sac not a roadmap’

The Queensland government will keep its state-owned coal plants running for up to a decade longer than previous plans, in a move that will put pressure on national climate targets.

The Queensland treasurer and energy minister, David Janetzki, revealed an “energy roadmap” on Friday and said state-owned coal assets would run until at least 2046, “meaning coal will be part of the state’s generation mix for decades”.
