US ambassador-designate to India affirms commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific

US Ambassador-designate to India meets NSA Doval, says both nations “remain committed to advance a free and open Indo-Pacific”

US Ambassador-designate to India, Sergio Gor, engaged in discussions with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on October 11. Gor affirmed that the United States and India are dedicated to promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific, reports 24brussels.

During a post on X, the US Embassy in India remarked, “A pleasure to spend time with National Security Advisor Doval today. The US and India remain committed to working together to advance a free and open Indo-Pacific.”

Gor expressed the US’s appreciation for its relationship with India, highlighting an optimistic view of future ties between the two nations. He noted that US President Donald Trump holds a personal friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying, “The US values its relationship with India, and under the strong leadership of President Donald J Trump and Prime Minister Modi, I’m optimistic about the days ahead for both of our nations.” Gor added that the two leaders had an “incredible phone call” prior to his departure for New Delhi.

Upon his arrival, Gor undertook meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and NSA Doval. Discussion topics included critical minerals. “We hit the ground running. We had a great series of meetings with Foreign Secretary Misri, the External Affairs Minister, Dr. Jaishankar, and the National Security Advisor, Doval. We just finished an incredible meeting with Prime Minister Modi, where we discussed bilateral issues, including defence, trade, and technology,” he noted.

Gor concluded by reiterating his commitment to deepening US-India relations. “Once again, it’s an honour to serve as President Donald Trump’s ambassador to India, and I look forward to this very important relationship and continuing to grow and deepen the relationship between our two nations,” he remarked. Magnitude 5.0 earthquake strikes Pakistan, raising concerns of potential aftershocks

Earthquake of magnitude 5.0 hits Pakistan

Oct 11, 2025 23:39 IST

An earthquake measuring 5.0 magnitude struck Pakistan on Saturday, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), reports 24brussels. The tremor occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, raising concerns about potential aftershocks.

The NCS reported the earthquake’s details via a post on X: “EQ of M: 5.0, On: 11/10/2025 20:23:57 IST, Lat: 31.19 N, Long: 71.04 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Pakistan.”

Just days earlier, on October 5, another earthquake measured 4.6 magnitude struck the region. The NCS shared details on this as well: “EQ of M: 4.6, On: 05/10/2025 18:59:30 IST, Lat: 30.33 N, Long: 66.43 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Pakistan.”

Shallow earthquakes like these typically pose a greater risk due to the proximity of seismic waves to the surface, resulting in intensified ground shaking and potential damage to structures. Pakistan, situated in a seismically active region traversed by multiple major faults, remains on high alert for such occurrences.

Notably, provinces including Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan lie at the southern edge of the Eurasian plate, while Sindh and Punjab are positioned on the northwestern edge of the Indian plate, heightening their vulnerability to seismic activity. Balochistan, situated near the active boundary of the Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates, experiences frequent tremors.

Historically, Pakistan has faced significant seismic events, including the devastating 1945 Balochistan earthquake, which recorded an 8.1 magnitude and remains the largest earthquake in the country’s history.
