Cuban president calls for release of Global Sumud Flotilla members intercepted by Israel

International Outcry Following Interception of Global Sumud Flotilla

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has demanded the immediate release of over 170 crew members of the Global Sumud Flotilla, intercepted by Israeli forces while en route to the Gaza Strip to deliver humanitarian aid, reports 24brussels.

President Díaz-Canel publicly condemned the interception in international waters, urging for the swift release of David Adler, coordinator of Progressive International. He described the incident as a brutal attack that disregards international maritime law.

In his statement on X, Díaz-Canel declared, “End the impunity of the genocidal Zionists and their accomplices!” He reaffirmed Cuba’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and commitment to defending human rights amid the ongoing violence in Gaza.

The Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian initiative involving activists, medical professionals, journalists, and human rights advocates from 47 nations, was reportedly captured by the Israeli navy as it approached Gaza’s coast. This action has drawn widespread condemnation from humanitarian agencies and governments worldwide.

Countries such as Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina have echoed calls for the release of the detainees, contributing to the rising international criticism of Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in over 67,000 fatalities, predominantly among women and children.
