India proposes Prof Bimal N Patel as candidate for ITLOS judge at diplomatic reception

MEA hosts diplomatic reception to introduce Prof Bimal N Patel as India’s candidate for ITLOS Judge

Ambassador Sibi George, Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), hosted a diplomatic reception in New Delhi to introduce Prof Bimal N Patel as India’s candidate for the post of Judge at the International Tribunal on the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) for the 2026-2035 term, reports 24brussels.

The reception was attended by Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and diplomatic representatives of Member States of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared details of the event on X, highlighting that Secretary George presented Dr Patel to the distinguished guests.

During the event, Ambassador George reaffirmed India’s commitment to a free, fair, transparent, and rules-based maritime order. Dr Patel, a prominent Indian legal scholar in maritime law, currently serves as a member of the International Law Commission and is the Vice Chancellor of Rashtriya Raksha University in Gujarat. Jaiswal emphasized Dr Patel’s credentials, noting his significant contributions to the field.

The introduction of Dr Patel comes at a crucial time, as the ITLOS position requires a thorough understanding of international maritime law amid global challenges. India’s focus on a stable maritime framework is integral to its diplomatic strategy, reflecting its growing influence in regional and international waters.

This diplomatic initiative is not only a testament to India’s legal expertise but also reinforces its stance as a proactive participant in shaping a cooperative maritime order worldwide, a commitment that aligns with its broader foreign policy objectives.

Sony reveals advancements in GPU technology for next PlayStation console

Advancements in Graphics Technology for Future Sony Consoles

In a significant development for the gaming industry, Mark Cerny, lead architect for Sony’s PlayStation 5 (PS5) and PS5 Pro, announced that the next-generation console, likely called the PS6, is expected to launch within the next few years. This revelation was made during a recent YouTube video featuring Cerny and Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of AMD’s Computing and Graphics Group, where they discussed their collaborative advancements in graphics technology, reports 24brussels.

The discussion highlighted several technical enhancements aimed at bolstering the graphics capabilities of future consoles. Cerny noted that the current graphics processing approaches have hit their limits. To navigate this challenge, Sony is partnering with AMD to incorporate elements of its next-generation RDNA architecture into upcoming consoles. This partnership will introduce Radiance Cores, akin to Nvidia’s RT Cores, dedicated specifically to managing ray tracing and path tracing, promising significant improvements in visual fidelity.

These Radiance Cores are anticipated to enhance performance, allowing other components to concentrate on processing shaders and textures efficiently. Cerny emphasized that these innovations would also benefit AMD’s forthcoming desktop GPUs, suggesting a broad application of this technology across multiple platforms, including potential joint efforts with Microsoft in their Xbox collaboration.

Compression techniques are another focal point in these advancements. Sony aims to refine its Delta Color Compression technique currently utilized in the PS5 and PS5 Pro, transitioning to a more efficient Universal Compression method that will streamline data processing across the GPU. Huynh highlighted that this innovation will facilitate “more detail, higher frame rates, and greater efficiency,” enabling GPUs to operate more effectively, especially in low-power modes.

With rumors circulating about a potential PlayStation handheld device, these GPU improvements are expected to have cross-platform relevance, potentially facilitating enhanced performance for portable gaming. Sony has already implemented efficiency measures in the PS5 with a new Power Saver mode that optimizes performance for lower power consumption. The integration of these advancements indicates a proactive approach by Sony to ensure that its next-generation devices are equipped to handle modern gaming demands.

As these developments unfold, they signal a concerted effort by Sony and AMD to push the boundaries of gaming technology, reinforcing their commitment to delivering high-performance gaming experiences while addressing the challenges posed by power consumption and processing capabilities.
