Mumbai: British PM Keir Starmer interacts with business leaders

Mumbai (Maharashtra) — British Prime Minister Keir Starmer engaged with business leaders in Mumbai on Wednesday, marking the beginning of his first official visit to India, reports 24brussels.

During the meeting at the Taj Mahal Palace, Starmer shared a light-hearted moment as he took a selfie with a disposable camera. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) welcomed the visit, stating it signals a new chapter in the robust relationship between India and the UK.

In an additional announcement on X, the MEA noted that Starmer’s delegation includes 125 members, comprising CEOs, entrepreneurs, university vice-chancellors, and cultural leaders.

On October 9, during his visit, Prime Minister Starmer will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss advancements in the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, aligning with ‘Vision 2035’, which outlines a ten-year roadmap focusing on trade, investment, technology, defence, climate change, health, education, and bilateral relations.

Both leaders are expected to stimulate discussions around the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), identified as a cornerstone of the future economic partnership. In addition, they will address regional and global issues of significance.

Starmer’s visit coincides with the 6th edition of the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai, where both Prime Ministers will deliver keynote addresses and engage with industry experts, policymakers, and innovators. This visit aims to sustain and build upon the positive momentum established during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UK in July 2025, reaffirming their shared ambition to cultivate a forward-looking partnership.
