U.K. #SynagogueAttack
The incident occurred on #YomKippur, the holiest day in the #Jewish calendar, while a large number of worshippers were inside the synagogue. British authorities have officially declared it a terrorist incident. On October 2, 2025, two people were killed and several others injured in a car-ramming and stabbing attack outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue in Manchester, U.K
What happened
At approximately 9:31 a.m., a man drove a car into pedestrians outside the synagogue in the Crumpsall district of Manchester before getting out and attacking people with a knife.
The attacker, who was wearing what appeared to be an explosive vest, was prevented from entering the synagogue by the bravery of security staff and worshippers.
Armed police responded within minutes and fatally shot the suspect. Two other individuals have since been arrested in connection with the attack.
Bomb disposal units were called to the scene to assess the suspicious device on the suspect’s body.
Victims and response
Two members of the Jewish community were killed in the attack, and several others were injured, with some in serious condition. The victims’ identities have not yet been released.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the attack “horrific” and flew home from a conference to chair an emergency government meeting.
In response, police presence was increased at synagogues and Jewish community centers across the country to provide reassurance.
The attack drew widespread condemnation from British and international leaders, including King Charles III and the Israeli embassy in London.
Community Security Trust (CST), a charity that monitors antisemitism in the U.K., noted that the attack comes amidst a broader rise in antisemitic incidents in the U.K. and worldwide.
