Mexican Migrant Shot Dead by ICE in Chicago
In a tragic incident on September 12, 2025, a Mexican migrant was fatally shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during an arrest operation in Franklin Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The victim, identified as 38-year-old Silverio Villegas González from Michoacán, reportedly resisted arrest and attempted to run over the agents, leading to the shooting, reports 24brussels.
The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the killing, characterizing it as an act of violence. They have reached out to Villegas’s family to offer legal advice and assistance. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns the violence and has requested through the Consulate General of Mexico in that city that a rigorous investigation be carried out by the corresponding authority for the full clarification of the facts,” the ministry stated via their official X account.
According to ICE, officers were attempting to arrest Villegas when he allegedly drove his vehicle towards them, striking an agent and dragging him as he fled. Fearing for his safety, the agent discharged his firearm, hitting Villegas. Both received immediate medical attention, but Villegas was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The injured agent is reported to be in stable condition.
