Cuba calls for international action to prevent U.S. military aggression against Venezuela

U.S. Military Presence in Caribbean Raises Concerns Over Potential Conflict

On Thursday, Cuba urged the international community to take action against potential military aggression towards Venezuela, citing the increased presence of U.S. military forces in Caribbean waters near the South American nation, reports 24brussels.

Cuba’s Foreign Ministry issued a strong statement condemning what it characterized as a dangerous escalation of U.S. military activities in the region. The statement detailed the accumulation of military assets, accusations of hostile actions against civilian vessels, and the interception of ships as violations of international norms.

The statement further accused the U.S. government of conducting psychological warfare and spreading disinformation to justify these military actions under the pretext of national security concerns regarding Venezuela. It asserted that such maneuvers appear to be aimed at pursuing control over Venezuela’s oil resources.

Cuba reiterated its warning that the ongoing U.S. military deployment constitutes a provocation that could ignite a larger conflict, compelling Venezuela to defend its sovereignty. “A direct military aggression against Venezuela would have incalculable consequences for the peace, stability, and security of Our America,” the statement declared.

The Cuban statement emphasized that no government should resort to the threat or use of force, asserting the need for international mobilization to prevent acts of aggression against Venezuela and uphold the established Zone of Peace in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Meanwhile, Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez condemned the escalation of U.S. reconnaissance flights in the region, asserting that such actions have tripled since August. He described these military movements as provocative and indicative of the U.S. intent to undermine Venezuelan security.
