The best and worst looks at the New York Film Festival so far

  • The New York Film Festival is being held at Lincoln Center between September 26 and October 13.
  • Stars including Jeremy Allen White and Julia Roberts have attended so far.
  • On the event’s red carpet, outfits have ranged from sharp suits to statement dresses.

The New York Film Festival might not be as glamorous as the one in Cannes — but there’s still plenty of high fashion at the event.

Just look at what Ayo Edebiri, Jeremy Allen White, and Greta Lee wore while attending the Upper West Side event last week.

That said, a few celebrities have also arrived at Lincoln Center in outfits that completely missed the mark.

Here are the best and worst ensembles we’ve seen at the 2025 New York Film Festival so far.

Louis Vuitton custom-made the suit he wore to promote his coming film, “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere.” It comprised black trousers, a white button-up shirt, and a leather blazer.

The outfit was both classic and representative of the lead actor’s personal style.

Luca Guadagnino’s jacket stood out too strongly from the rest of his outfit.

The Italian film director, known for his movies like “Challengers,” attended the festival in black dress pants, shining dress shoes, and a white button-up top.

While a loose-fitting blazer would have completed the outfit nicely, he instead wore a boxy tweed piece with sharp shoulders.

The wide shape didn’t work with his skinny trousers.

Ayo Edebiri proved that you can never go wrong with a little black dress.

Her Chanel gown was sleeveless and simple. The velvet piece had a halter neckline, a floor-length skirt, and a mesh overlay that covered her chest.

Edebiri accessorized the glamorous look with a diamond bracelet and matching earrings, and her hair was styled in a wavy bob.

Laura Dern, on the other hand, wore a black gown that overpowered her.

Gabriela Hearst designed the lace ensemble, which included a strapless dress, a long cape, and fishnet tights decorated with a swirled pattern.

Though each piece was stunning on its own, they clashed when worn together.

The cape made Dern’s outfit look more like a costume, and her tights took away from the elegance of her dress.

Greta Lee stunned in purple silk.

“The Morning Show” actor arrived at the event in a Colleen Allen gown that retails for $1,890. It had long sleeves, a floor-length skirt, and a deep keyhole cutout across its bodice.

The gown’s elongated shape made Lee look taller in photos, and its vibrant color was especially flattering in contrast with her dark hair.

Julia Roberts wore a quirky ensemble that needed one tweak.

She was photographed at the festival wearing an ensemble designed by Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood.

It featured a graphic blazer, a matching pleated skirt, a gray button-up blouse, and a tie embellished with multiple brooches.

The top half of the outfit was fun and unique. It would have looked better on Roberts if it had been styled with a miniskirt like it was on the designer runway.

Andrew Garfield made flare pants and polka dots work.

He posed for photographers on the red carpet wearing a satin blazer and a polka-dot blouse. The look was classic and tailored perfectly to him.

He also added a fun vintage touch with flared trousers and statement silver jewelry.

George Clooney and Amal Clooney had a rare fashion mishap.

George and Amal Clooney are known to wear glamorous, coordinated fashion.

At the New York Film Festival, however, they chose ensembles that didn’t work well together.

George Clooney wore a navy suit with a baby-blue button-up, and Amal Clooney donned a red minidress with a strapless, satin top and a floral-covered skirt.

Why Norland nannies are so expensive

If you combine a spoonful of Mary Poppins with 3 ounces of James Bond and an intensive four-year childcare curriculum, you’ll get a Norland nanny.

These highly trained, highly paid professional nannies have long been sought after by England’s elite, providing childcare to folks like Mick Jagger and the royal family. For 130 years, Norland College has provided a unique and rigorous program that teaches students skills like self-defense, skidpan driving, sushi making, and more.

Admission used to be limited to Europeans, but in 2021, Norland opened its doors to Americans for the first time. We visited the college in Bath to see what’s drawing American students to this British institution and what it takes to become a Norland nanny.

As a Texas local, I skip the crowds in Austin and head west to a charming nearby city with incredible wineries

Blue bonnets and poppies in field with lots of green trees near Fredericksburg, Texas
Fredericksburg, Texas, and its surrounding areas have some incredible scenery and wineries.

  • I’ve lived in Texas for many years, and Fredericksburg is one of my favorite places to visit.
  • The small city has a charming, walkable Main Street with some great restaurants.
  • Fredericksburg has incredible wineries, and I like that it isn’t too far from Austin or San Antonio.

After 15 years of driving between San Antonio and Austin as a longtime Texas local, I’ve found my favorite detour: Fredericksburg.

Part of the scenic Texas Hill Country, it’s a walkable city with German roots that’s popular for its array of wineries, boutique hotels, and lively downtown area.

Though I love Austin and San Antonio, Fredericksburg provides a small-town feel that the aforementioned cities — with populations close to a million each — could never quite achieve.

In my opinion, Fredericksburg’s small population of about 12,000 only lends to its charm. It’s a great break from bigger cities, as it’s less than a two-hour drive from Austin or San Antonio.

Here’s why I visit twice a year and highly recommend it as a travel destination.

Wine is a huge draw of the area

Main Street has restaurants, wine-tasting rooms, coffee shops, and bars.

Fredericksburg is situated in the heart of Texas wine country, so visiting without enjoying one of its many wineries is like a crime in Texas. (Another? Dry brisket.)

There are two options for vinos in Fredericksburg — stop by a multitude of tasting rooms on Main Street or drive out past a ranch or two to find Tuscan-style wineries hidden in plain sight.

One of my favorite wineries that’s worth the extra drive is Augusta Vin Winery. I always enjoy sipping reds in the spacious tasting room with large open windows that are perfect for taking in the Texas sunshine.

Other wineries worth visiting in Fredericksburg include Slate Theory for a touch of modernity, the Rhinory for the unique experience of drinking at a rhino reserve, and Barons Creek or Grape Creek Vineyards for classic experiences with beautiful views.

Fredericksburg also has several great restaurants and cafés

The Restaurant at The Albert Hotel is beautiful.

There’s no shortage of great places to grab a meal in Fredericksburg.

Consider leaning into the city’s German heritage at The Auslander, one of the many locally owned restaurants on Main Street. Reminiscent of a classic Bavarian beer hall, it has beer, a whole section of schnitzel entrées, sausage plates, and German sandwiches.

For a guest more partial to upscale fare, try Albert Hotel’s fairly new spot, The Restaurant. It’s a great place for date night.

Led by Michelin-starred chef Michael Fojtasek, the Restaurant pays homage to seasonal Texas Hill Country-inspired cuisine with fresh local ingredients (like peaches) and spins on German dishes.

It’s also easy to find good Texas barbecue in spots like Junebug’s BBQ. Its menu is filled with smoked meats (the pulled pork is especially impressive) and all the fixings.

Other notable local bites include Vaudeville’s famous Saturday gumbo, Otto’s decadent cinnamon rolls, and Alstadt Brewery’s ice-cold beer and tasty Reuben sandwiches.

Main Street is also home to several coffee shops — the Old West-themed Java Ranch is my go-to for a perfect iced latte. Other spots worth trying include Kaffee Haus and Caliche Coffee and Roasters.

And if you want to visit an Instagram-worthy bar with lots of bubbly, head down Main Street to the all-pink paradise that is Brooke’s Bubble Bar.

There’s so much to do and try here, and I’ll keep coming back

I often switch up which restaurants and vineyards I visit, and Fredericksburg’s variety of accommodations makes it easy to change up where I stay, too.

I can sleep in one of several boutique hotels, go for a more rustic stay at the Onera treehouse resort near Main Street, or enjoy a cozy guest cabin at Cross Mountain Vineyards.

Hotels and eateries aside, Main Street also has tons of art galleries, antique shops, jewelry stores, clothing boutiques, and more.

I appreciate that I can spend a whole day exploring downtown without ever moving my car. (Plus, I’ve always been able to find ample free parking on Main Street).

If you want to enjoy a big Texas city, check out Austin or even San Antonio. However, if you’re looking for a quieter alternative with a small-town feel, Fredericksburg is a great pick.

I know I’ll be back soon.
