Venezuela’s foreign minister criticizes U.S. military threats at UN General Assembly

In a bold address at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 26, 2025, Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Yván Gil condemned what he termed an illegal and immoral U.S. military threat against Venezuela, framing rising tensions in the Caribbean as a covert campaign of regime change designed to seize the country’s significant oil and gas reserves, reports 24brussels.

During his speech, Gil expressed appreciation for the increasing international support from multilateral blocs such as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and the BRICS group. He argued that their solidarity underscores Venezuela’s right to self-determination and peace. The Foreign Minister described the 1,042 unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States as “criminal,” asserting that these sanctions are tools of war that have inflicted extensive suffering on Venezuelans.

“Today, the invasion targets Venezuela,” Gil stated. “They invent lies no one believes to justify a monstrous, million-dollar military threat.” This rhetoric aims to rally global support and prompt a reassessment of U.S. actions in the region, positioning Venezuela as a victim of imperialist aggression rather than merely a geopolitical adversary.

Gil’s address directly challenged the U.S. foreign policy narrative in Latin America. He recalled past U.S. interventions—Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, and drone strikes on Iran—to illustrate a consistent pattern of engagement driven more by strategic interests than humanitarian concerns. “Venezuela speaks to the world with truth,” he asserted, framing his country as enduring a “multiform war” that encompasses economic warfare, disinformation, and political sabotage.

He issued a stark warning that any military action—regardless of its scale—would result in a regional catastrophe. U.S. naval vessels and nuclear-capable submarines conducting operations near Venezuela’s maritime borders were described not as protective measures, but as preparations for intervention.

“We have the duty to defend our sovereignty and the stability of the Caribbean and South America,” Gil stated. “Peace is our vocation, but we will not surrender our dignity.” His comments come in the wake of intensified military exercises involving U.S. forces and allied Caribbean nations, which many analysts view as efforts to normalize foreign military presence near Venezuela.

The context of Gil’s speech reflects a rapidly shifting global order characterized by rising economies and strengthened multilateral alliances. Historically, the U.S. wielded significant influence over Latin American politics, but the emergence of the BRICS+ coalition—comprising Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE—demonstrates a shift in power dynamics, representing over 40% of the global population and fostering alternative economic frameworks.

CELAC and NAM have become key platforms for resistance against external interference, with recent resolutions condemning U.S. sanctions on Venezuela and affirming respect for national sovereignty. Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez echoed these sentiments, critiquing U.S. actions in Gaza and advocating for a renewed international order grounded in equality and cooperation.

“Aspire to a civilized coexistence,” Rodríguez concluded, “where solidarity replaces war.” These collective statements underscore a growing rejection of unilateralism, advocating for a more democratic multilateral system that grants equal standing to smaller nations.

Gil’s remarks signify a concerted effort to shift the geopolitical narrative surrounding Venezuela. For years, international media characterized the country as a failing state riddled with corruption and authoritarianism. The current diplomatic strategy seeks to reframe this image as one of resistance against imperial aggression, aligned with other nations facing similar external pressures—Cuba, Iran, Russia, China, and Palestine.

By invoking the legacy of Hugo Chávez, Gil positioned his predecessors’ vision for social emancipation and regional integration as ongoing despite foreign opposition. His commitment to global solidarity portrays Venezuela as a nation devoted to fostering alliances across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Despite broad rhetorical support, tangible actions against U.S. sanctions remain limited. The future will reveal whether BRICS or CELAC can implement binding mechanisms for mutual defense and economic resilience.

The Venezuela UN speech transcended mere national defense—it underscored a principle: no country should exist under the threat of foreign military action or sanctions.

In an era dictated by power constructions, Yván Gil asserted, we will not be silenced. His address serves as a crucial reminder that sovereignty must be actively defended and that peace requires proactive demands rather than passive acceptance. As the 80th session of the UN continues, one thing is clear: the age of unquestioned U.S. hegemony is waning, paving the way for a future where multiple voices can advocate for diverse futures.

As Venezuela changes its position in this evolving framework, it emerges as a potent symbol of resistance against dominant narratives and foreign oppression.

Police disperse illegal drifting event in Limburg involving around 100 drivers

Bree – About 100 drivers linked to the Balkan Krew gathered illegally in Limburg on Friday, Sep 26, 2025, drifting in Bree, Rotem, Maastricht, and Vise, while police quickly dispersed them and documented the cars, reports 24brussels.

Late Friday night, approximately a hundred drivers of luxury and tuned cars congregated for an illegal street event in Limburg, Belgium. The gathering took place around midnight at an industrial estate in Bree. Police swiftly intervened, dispersing the crowd before the situation escalated.

According to Carma police, the initial gathering was not perceived as large. “We did pull over a few cars, but it certainly wasn’t a large-scale operation,” an official stated.

What happened when 100 Balkan Krew drivers drifted in Bree and Dilsen-Stokkem?

As drifting in Bree became untenable, the drivers relocated to an industrial estate in Rotem, situated on the grounds of an old zinc factory, adjacent to the city’s recycling centre. This area features a recently constructed roundabout.

At this site, the drivers executed sharp drifts and high-speed maneuvers, which continued for about 20 minutes until police arrived. Officers cordoned off the vicinity, preventing access and taking photographs of the participating vehicles.

Following the police intervention, some drivers regrouped near Maastricht, crossing the border into the Netherlands. They subsequently proceeded to Vise in Wallonia, where they managed to race and drift for approximately two hours without disruption. Authorities confirmed that these events were organized via online networks and emphasized that such gatherings are illegal and pose significant safety risks.

Although the Balkan Krew officially disbanded, its influence remains. In the past, the group organized multiple illegal tuning events in Limburg, boasting hundreds of members across the Benelux and Germany. Authorities previously dismantled the organization due to violent incidents at its events. Despite its dissolution, many members maintain connections through online chats, enabling them to plan new gatherings without an official framework.
