Venezuela and Colombia enhance border cooperation for security and economic recovery

Maduro Highlights Progress in Colombia-Venezuela Border Zones

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced significant advancements in the three designated zones for comprehensive recovery along the Colombia-Venezuela border, stating that these initiatives “are going from strength to strength,” reports 24brussels.

During the 20th Anniversary celebrations of the Strategic Operational Command of the FANB (Ceofanb), Maduro emphasized the positive outcomes of the Binational Zone of Peace and Sovereignty established in coordination with Colombia. He noted that enhancements in military and police collaboration, as well as economic development, characterize the ongoing efforts.

Maduro stressed the success of zone one, which focuses on peace and sovereignty, while in zone three, related to the Amazon, a meeting involving governors from both nations was conducted. Present at this gathering were Colombian Ambassador to Venezuela Milton Rengifo and Venezuelan Ambassador to Colombia Carlos Martínez Mendoza.

The Venezuelan leader urged Colombian President Gustavo Petro to deepen cooperation across various domains to bolster security for both nations. “To protect mutual environments and to free this region from groups that generate violence, criminal groups, drug trafficking, old or new,” he remarked, underscoring the need for unified efforts.

Maduro’s push for enhanced collaboration reflects broader regional security concerns, as both leaders look to mitigate threats posed by organized crime and promote stability in the region. The discussions are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations following years of tension.
