Iran and Russia to Advance Nuclear Power Cooperation
Tehran and Moscow are set to enhance their nuclear alliance during World Atomic Week in Moscow, scheduled for September 25 to 28, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Russia’s nuclear industry, reports 24brussels.
Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), confirmed that both countries will sign new agreements to construct eight nuclear power plants and expand their joint projects. Eslami emphasized Iran’s strategic objective of generating 20,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity from nuclear energy, which involves significant collaboration with Russia.
During his visit, Eslami’s agenda will include tours of factories and meetings with research institutes focused on bolstering scientific and educational cooperation. He noted that the construction of units two and three of the Bushehr nuclear power plant remains a shared priority, with direct support from both nations’ presidents.
In recent months, bilateral cooperation has intensified, with ongoing discussions aimed at deepening their nuclear partnership. The Moscow forum will convene international experts and leaders from various nuclear programs to explore the future of atomic energy amid a global push for safer and more sustainable energy sources.
As both nations look to solidify their nuclear ambitions, the implications for regional energy dynamics remain significant, raising questions about the geopolitical landscape and the sustainability of nuclear energy deployments.
