UK and US Forge Multi-Billion Dollar Technology Partnership
On September 17, 2025, the United Kingdom and the United States solidified a multi-billion-dollar technology deal during U.S. President Donald Trump’s state visit, aiming to enhance sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and nuclear technology, reports 24brussels.
The Tech Prosperity Deal is designed to accelerate AI research for developing new drugs, streamlining treatments, and improving cancer care, while also bolstering civil nuclear projects.
As part of this initiative, Microsoft intends to invest $30 billion in AI infrastructure within the UK. Concurrently, Google plans to establish a data center in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, as integral to a two-year, multi-billion-dollar investment strategy in the country.
However, critics have raised alarms about the UK’s mounting reliance on the US and its technology, highlighting potential risks associated with such dependence. Gaia Marcus of the Ada Lovelace Institute remarked that the focus should not solely be on immediate financial gains, as this might lead to “technological lock-in” which could restrict future options.
Additionally, Chi Onwurah, chair of the House of Commons Science, Innovation and Technology Committee, warned that genuine technological sovereignty cannot hinge on dependency on a single investor or nation.
Trump’s arrival in London was met with considerable dissent, as nearly 100 protesters gathered outside Windsor Castle, voicing their objections to the visit. Slogans like “Stop Hate, Stop Trump” were chanted, and placards bore messages stating, “Hate Never Made Any Nation Great.” Organized by the Stop Trump Coalition, tens of thousands are expected to protest across London on Wednesday.

Apple’s MacBook Pro May Feature Touchscreen in Future Models
The next generation of Apple’s MacBook Pro laptops could become the first to incorporate a touchscreen display, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The anticipated shift may apply to OLED MacBook Pro models slated for production by late 2026, reports 24brussels.
Kuo indicated that these models would feature a “touch panel using on-cell touch technology.” This projection aligns with earlier reports by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who noted two years ago that Apple was actively exploring touchscreen capabilities for MacBooks. Gurman anticipated the release of a touch-panel Mac in 2025 as part of broader updates to the MacBook Pro lineup.
In June, Gurman reiterated the possibility of future Macs and iPads sharing touchscreen features, running compatible applications and utilizing similar user interfaces. This evolution comes after the rollout of iPadOS 26, which significantly enhanced the iPad’s functionality, prompting speculation about the MacBook’s potential adoption of touchscreen technology.
Kuo suggested that integrating touch controls could enhance productivity for MacBook users in specific contexts. However, questions remain regarding whether future touchscreen MacBook Pro models will support Apple Pencil, a feature that may raise expectations further.
