Ukrainian offensive operation in the Sumy region halted, says President Zelensky

Ukraine Disrupts Russian Offensive in Sumy Region

On September 12, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the Russian offensive operation in the Sumy region has been fully thwarted, and the enemy’s forces have lost their offensive capabilities, reports 24brussels.

During a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s staff dedicated to air defense matters, Zelensky emphasized the importance of swiftly supplying necessary military equipment, including anti-aircraft systems and missiles. He highlighted positive developments in the production of Ukrainian interceptors and stressed the significance of enhancing the training of air defense operators. Additionally, the staff analyzed the effectiveness of strikes on Russian logistics and fuel infrastructure.

Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief General Oleksandr Syrskyi provided an update on the front line situation, revealing active resistance against enemy assaults in Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. The ongoing efforts to counter Russian advances have also been a focal point of recent discussions.

The meeting further addressed the need to strengthen domestic arms production, procurement efforts, and international support. Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Germany had begun supplying two Patriot systems to Ukraine, with the first launchers already delivered to Kyiv.
