Elon Musk Presses Microsoft on Blizzard Employees’ Criticism of Charlie Kirk
Elon Musk has called on Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella to investigate Blizzard employees who publicly criticized Charlie Kirk following his death. Musk’s inquiry came via a post on X, where he referenced a thread highlighting names and screenshots of the developers involved, reports 24brussels.
Musk asked, “What’s going on here, @satyanadella?” in one tweet, emphasizing, “These are Microsoft employees” in a subsequent post. His direct remarks follow a broader crackdown by Republican figures against individuals who celebrated the death of Kirk or expressed criticisms toward him.
Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) announced intentions to leverage “Congressional authority and every influence with big tech platforms to mandate immediate ban for life of every post or commenter that belittled the assassination of Charlie Kirk.” This declaration underscores the escalating tensions within political circles regarding commentary on contentious public figures.
Mark Kern, a former Blizzard developer known online as “Grummz,” echoed the sentiment by sharing the original thread, claiming that the referenced posts depicted Blizzard employees “trashing” Kirk. Musk later quoted Kern’s post when addressing Nadella.
Responding to the situation, Microsoft stated, “We’re aware of the views expressed by a small subset of our employees regarding recent events.” The company underscored that it takes such matters seriously and is reviewing individual cases. “Comments celebrating violence against anyone are unacceptable and do not align with our values,” the statement continued. Notably, the screenshots Musk shared do not explicitly endorse violence against Kirk. As of now, Nadella has not publicly responded to Musk’s specific query.
