The AI boom’s latest job winners: OpenAI is paying nearly $400,000 for a content strategist

openai
OpenAI’s $393K content strategist job shows how the AI boom is making human creativity more valuable than ever.

  • OpenAI is hiring a content strategist with pay up to $393,000 plus equity.
  • Meta listed a content engineer role last week with pay of up to $223,000 plus bonus and equity.
  • High-paying content jobs are also cropping up across industries reshaped by AI.

Far from devaluing creativity, the AI boom is making it one of the most expensive skills in tech.

A job listing for a content strategist at OpenAI, posted earlier this week, comes with a pay package that rivals senior engineering roles: $310,000 to $393,000 in base salary plus equity.

Glassdoor data shows the average US content strategist earns about $92,000.

OpenAI’s posting says the person hired will “define and execute the content strategy for ChatGPT.com.”

“You’ll shape how our brand sounds to the world, set the voice and tone guidelines, and roll up your sleeves to write, edit, and publish content that resonates with a global audience of both businesses and consumers,” the company wrote.

OpenAI is targeting candidates with 6 to 10 or more years of experience in content strategy, copywriting, or growth marketing at a “high-growth company or prominent brand.”

OpenAI isn’t alone in paying up for content talent. Meta posted a job last week for a content engineer role tied to generative AI with compensation of $159,000 to $223,000 in base salary plus bonus and equity.

Meta says its GenAI content engineering team has backgrounds in “journalism, social media, creative storytelling, writing, editing, visual arts, film & TV production, and more.”

Applicants are expected to have extensive experience in digital content strategy, along with at least a year of hands-on work with GenAI products, prompt engineering, annotation, or content labeling and analysis, the posting said.

OpenAI and Meta did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

The rise of content jobs

High-paying content jobs are cropping up across the industry — especially in sectors being reshaped by AI.

Last month, Duolingo advertised for a director of social media with a salary band topping out at $342,000. PayPal recently listed a head of CEO content role paying up to nearly $240,000.

PwC’s 2025 Global AI Jobs Barometer, published in June, found wages in AI-exposed industries are rising twice as fast as those in less exposed ones, and workers with AI skills command a 56% wage premium. PwC analyzed about 841 million job ads across 24 countries, including the US, UK, Hong Kong, and Australia.

Fresh content job titles are also emerging. According to Autodesk’s 2025 AI Jobs Report published in June, postings for an “AI Content Creator” surged 134.5% year over year, based on an analysis of nearly 3 million global job ads.

Some startups are leaning hard on content, too.

Viral AI “cheating” startup Cluely is betting on influencers to drive growth.

Cluely needs to be “the biggest thing” on Instagram and TikTok, CEO and cofounder Chungin “Roy” Lee said on a podcast in June. “Every single big company is known by regular people,” he added.

Lee previously told BI that his main goal for Cluely is to reach 1 billion views across all platforms.

X’s head of product says this is the playbook for getting rich by posting

tbh founder Nikita Bier
tbh founder Nikita Bier

  • X’s product head, Nikita Bier, said there’s a playbook to getting rich on the platform.
  • He said users should post about one topic they are knowledgeable in, every day, for six months.
  • “By the end, you will be recognized as the world’s leading expert in that subject area,” Bier said.

X’s product head said there’s a playbook for getting rich on the platform.

Nikita Bier, who became the product head at X in July, took to the platform on Thursday to share his tips on earning money on X.

He said that users should think about one subject matter they’re an expert on, and to keep posting about it.

“It can be anything: plumbing, menswear, Indian food, furniture, social apps, whatever,” he said.

“Post one unexpected insight you picked from your experience in that area. Keep it under 5 sentences. Do this every day for 6 months,” he added.

Bier said that if someone does this consistently for six months, X will promote their account to others.

“By the end, you will be recognized as the world’s leading expert in that subject area and you can charge whatever you want for endorsements, your time, or whatever,” Bier said. “And no one will be able to take that way from you.”

Bier responded to a critical comment from an X user, who said Bier’s method wouldn’t work because the X algorithm “favors slop.”

Bier disagreed. “That was then, this is now. Make sure you write in a way that is accessible to broader audiences,” he replied.

When he landed the role of product head at X in June, he said it was because he had posted his way to the top.

“While I already spend every waking hour on this app, I’ll now be spending that time helping others unlock that same value,” he said in a June 30 X post.

He had been gunning for the role for three years, he said.

Bier’s playbook has certainly worked for some content creators on the platform.

For instance, Derek Guy, better known by his handle “Dieworkwear,” was dubbed X’s “menswear guy” because of his frequent posts on men’s clothing. Guy has 1.3 million followers on X.

Representatives for X did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

  • President Donald Trump is set to change the Pentagon’s name to the Department of War.
  • It follows his January executive order, titled “Restoring names that honor American greatness.”
  • Take a look at five other things Trump has rebranded since he started his second term.

President Donald Trump has set his sights on rebranding the Pentagon.

On Thursday, Fox News reported that Trump is set to sign an executive order on Friday to change the name of the Department of Defense to the Department of War.

A White House official confirmed the news to Business Insider. The US’s defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, reposted Fox News’ X post on the news, with the caption “Department of War” in capital letters.

The name change will likely be subject to congressional approval.

The Pentagon is the latest example of Trump renaming entities, something he has been focused on since the start of his second term.

Immediately after entering office, Trump issued an executive order on January 20 titled “Restoring names that honor American greatness.”

“The naming of our national treasures, including breathtaking natural wonders and historic works of art, should honor the contributions of visionary and patriotic Americans in our Nation’s rich past,” he said in the order.

Here are five other things the president has rebranded since the start of his second term.

Gulf of America

Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

After starting his second term, one of Trump’s first orders of business was to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Trump’s executive order on January 20 directed the Secretary of the Interior to remove all mentions of the Gulf of Mexico from all federal references.

“The Gulf will continue to play a pivotal role in shaping America’s future and the global economy, and in recognition of this flourishing economic resource and its critical importance to our Nation’s economy and its people, I am directing that it officially be renamed the Gulf of America,” Trump wrote in the executive order on January 20.

Google Maps changed the name of the water basin to reflect Trump’s order.

Mount McKinley
Mount McKinley appears above a fog layer in the early morning hours of May 14, 2025 in Denali National Park, Alaska.
Mount McKinley used to be called Denali.

In 2015, former President Barack Obama changed the name of Mount McKinley, the highest mountain in North America, to Denali. Denali was the name historically given to the mountain by native Alaskan tribes.

However, in his executive order on January 20, Trump changed the peak’s name back to Mount McKinley, after the US’s 25th President, William McKinley.

“This order honors President McKinley for giving his life for our great Nation and dutifully recognizes his historic legacy of protecting America’s interests and generating enormous wealth for all Americans,” Trump said in the order.

The order said the name of the national park surrounding the mountain, Denali National Park and Preserve, would not be changed.

Fort Bragg
U.S. President Donald Trump arrives on Marine One to speak at a rally with U.S. Army troops on June 10, 2025 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Fort Bragg used to be called Fort Liberty.

In February, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth signed a memorandum renaming Fort Liberty to Fort Bragg.

The new name of the Army installation in North Carolina paid tribute to Roland L. Bragg, a US paratrooper during World War II.

The DOD’s February 10 news release called Bragg “a World War II hero who earned the Silver Star and Purple Heart for his exceptional courage during the Battle of the Bulge.”

“This change underscores the installation’s legacy of recognizing those who have demonstrated extraordinary service and sacrifice for the nation,” the release added.

Fort Pickett
Fort Barfoot's name was changed to Fort Pickett.

Fort Barfoot, a military installation belonging to Virginia’s National Guard, was renamed Fort Pickett on June 11.

The National Guard said on its website that the name change was done to honor “Vernon W. Pickett for his extraordinary heroism during World War II.”

Located near the town of Blackstone, Virginia, the installation includes 41,000 acres of open and wooded terrain, per the National Guard’s website.

The installation was initially named Fort Barfoot in honor of Van Barfoot, a Native American soldier who was a World War II hero.

Victory Day for World War I

Trump renamed Veterans Day to Victory Day for World War I

In May, Trump announced he would rename November 11, formerly Veterans Day, to Victory Day for World War I.

In a Truth Social post on May 1, he said that the US had “won both wars” but that the country doesn’t celebrate those wins properly.

He said in the post, “We are going to start celebrating our victories again!”

The US Department of Veterans Affairs website said that Veterans Day honors “America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.”
