Zelenskyy reveals that a child is among the dead and claims attack proves Russia has no intention of ending the war, despite intervention from Trump
Russian airstrikes have killed at least ten people in a succession of attacks on Kyiv overnight and wounded dozens more in the most deadly night raid on the Ukrainian capital for several weeks.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who revealed that a child was among the dead, said the attacks showed that Russia had no intention of negotiating an end the war, despite the recent intervention of US president Donald Trump.
India Launches Economic Strategy Amid U.S. Tariffs
The Indian government has unveiled a strategy aimed at bolstering domestic demand, diversifying export markets, and safeguarding local businesses in response to new U.S. tariffs. This marks its first economic assessment since the implementation of the tariffs, reports 24brussels.
The Ministry of Finance’s July Monthly Economic Report, published on Wednesday, acknowledges that short-term export prospects are under pressure due to uncertainty stemming from the tariffs. However, it emphasizes that a coordinated response between the government and the private sector can mitigate economic disruptions.
Central to India’s approach is a commitment to diversify global trade relations. The report highlights recently concluded free trade agreements with the UK and the European Free Trade Association, along with ongoing negotiations with the EU, Peru, and even the U.S., as vital to maintaining export activity.
Domestically, the report calls for an increase in manufacturing capabilities. It advocates for larger, financially stable companies to weather the immediate economic challenges, allowing small and medium enterprises to emerge with greater resilience from the ongoing trade conflict.
Currently, tariffs apply to approximately $60 billion in Indian exports following Washington’s imposition of a second 25% duty due to India’s continued oil trade with Russia. This adds to an earlier 25% tariff introduced in August amidst existing trade tensions.
The imposed tariffs are particularly affecting labor-intensive sectors in India, such as textiles and jewelry, although U.S. authorities have strategically avoided targeting pharmaceutical imports to prevent adverse effects on American consumers.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Accuses Kremlin of Targeting Diplomats Following Damage to Building
The building was “severely damaged,” according to EU Ambassador Katarina Mathernova, while Ukraine’s Foreign Minister accused the Kremlin of intentionally targeting diplomats, reports 24brussels.
In the latest escalation of tensions, the incident occurred amid ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, prompting immediate condemnation from various diplomatic channels. The foreign minister emphasized the deliberate nature of the attack, suggesting a calculated effort by Russia to undermine diplomatic missions in the region.
The damage has heightened concerns over the safety of foreign diplomats stationed in Ukraine. Many officials are now calling for increased measures to protect these personnel, as they carry out their duties amid the ongoing conflict. The European Union has reaffirmed its commitment to support Ukraine, asserting that such aggressive actions will not go unpunished.
Background reports indicate that this incident aligns with a broader strategy by the Kremlin to intimidate Western influence in Ukraine. Experts argue that the attack could lead to further diplomatic isolation for Russia, as the international community continues to rally in support of Ukraine.
As the international response unfolds, it remains crucial to monitor how these developments will affect the already complex geopolitical landscape in Eastern Europe. The incident underscores the urgent need for dialogue and resolution, as both sides navigate an increasingly volatile situation.
