ESPN revamps app with TikTok-style video feed and AI commentary for sports fans

ESPN Launches Revamped App Ahead of Live Sports Streaming Service

ESPN has unveiled a significantly updated app in anticipation of its live sports streaming service launch. The new features, including a TikTok-style vertical video feed, were announced on August 20, 2025, just one day before the official service rollout on August 21, reports 24brussels.

The long-anticipated streaming service will be available for $29.99 per month and will feature all 12 of ESPN’s linear channels, including ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU, consolidated into the revamped application.

The app’s personalized content feed will showcase short sports videos in a dedicated “verts” tab, along with a carousel on the homepage. A new “SC For You” feature is also being introduced, which utilizes AI-generated voices of SportsCenter anchors to deliver a customized daily version of the show tailored to users’ preferences for teams, leagues, and sports. This function will be accessible via the ESPN mobile app, ESPN.com, and select smart TVs.

Another enhancement allows users to link the ESPн mobile app with their television app while watching live events. During games, fans can receive stats and alerts sent to their phones, along with play-by-play updates, betting information, and fantasy stats. Users will also be able to control the livestream via the mobile app.

For those who tune in late, ESPN will provide highlights for selected events, enabling viewers to catch up on key moments. Additionally, users can choose to start a game from the beginning or watch it live.

ESPN is also introducing multiview functionality across major smart TV platforms, allowing viewers to watch up to four games simultaneously. This new app is designed to evolve continuously, according to ESPN head Jimmy Pitaro, who stated that the app “will evolve with regular enhancements over time.”

Furthermore, the full-featured streaming service will now be included for subscribers of Disney Plus, bringing sports alongside news and other live content. ESPN is currently offering a promotional bundle with ad-supported Disney Plus and Hulu plans for $29.99 per month for the first year, which will rise to $35.99 thereafter.
