The Kyrgyz Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry has called on farmers to actively plant corn, soybeans, sorghum, and other fodder crops for animal feed. The appeal was published on the ministry’s website.
According to the ministry, these crops are used to produce green fodder for livestock during the winter months, when pastures are bare. This practice is particularly important in regions with developed livestock farming.
Naryn region, for example, is the coldest in the country but also a leader in livestock production. Experts say expanding fodder crop cultivation would strengthen the sector’s resilience, boost meat and dairy output, and support overall agricultural growth.
The ministry noted that each autumn, prices for hay and feed rise sharply due to shortages. In Chui region, many farmers prefer to grow alfalfa to fatten livestock. Alfalfa is also used for hay bales, but it is highly water-intensive. Given Kyrgyzstan’s limited water resources and reliance on flood irrigation, this can lead to disputes between farmers.
While alfalfa remains popular, the ministry stressed that it is not suitable for all regions.
As The Times of Central Asia previously reported, Kyrgyz authorities recently imposed price controls on meat amid growing exports to neighboring countries. One of the factors behind the price hikes was a shortage of animal feed.
The drills, which will kick off next week, are a “direct military provocation” against North Korea, Pyongyang said.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and firefighters encountered challenges in extinguishing it using conventional methods. They had to access the roof of the vehicle to combat the flames, as initial attempts proved ineffective. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

Traffic on the E34 towards Antwerp was restricted to one lane due to the fire, with the lane closure expected to continue throughout the morning. Waasland fire district zone commander Thierry Van Goethem indicated that further efforts are necessary to control the fire completely, citing complexities with the heavy load involved.
A crane and additional equipment are required to assist in the removal of the scrap metal, which is preventing full access to the fire. Once the fire is extinguished, the scrap will be transferred to another truck for safe disposal from the highway.
This fire is reminiscent of a previous incident last year when a truck carrying construction waste ignited on a nearby highway, leading to lane closures and significant traffic delays as firefighters struggled to manage the packed materials.

Phil Bradley-Schmieg, lead counsel at the Wikimedia Foundation, stated, “While the decision does not provide the immediate legal protections for Wikipedia that we hoped for, the Court’s ruling emphasized the responsibility of Ofcom and the U.K. government to ensure Wikipedia is protected as the OSA is implemented.” The Foundation is committed to finding solutions to safeguard Wikipedia and its users’ rights amid the ongoing regulatory developments.
In June, Ofcom announced it was closely monitoring the legal challenge, with plans to release its register of categorized services “as soon as possible thereafter,” after initially aiming for a summer publication.
The ruling highlights ongoing tensions between digital platforms and emerging regulations aimed at online safety. Critics argue that if applied loosely, such regulations could limit access to free knowledge online, creating a conflict between regulatory intentions and user freedoms.
