Kremlin announces imminent Trump-Putin meeting to discuss Ukraine conflict

Moscow – A high-level arrangement has been reached for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to top Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov. This summit is expected to take place “in the coming days,” Ushakov informed reporters., reports 24brussels.

Ushakov indicated that the agreement was initiated by the American side, stating that both nations are now collaborating to finalize details. The meeting is anticipated to occur next week, although the precise location has yet to be disclosed, with confirmation that it has already been secured.

“At the suggestion of the American side, an agreement has been reached in principle to hold a bilateral summit in the coming days,”

Ushakov stated.

What was discussed in the Witkoff-Putin meeting?

Previously, on August 6, 2025, Steve Witkoff, a special envoy for President Trump, met with President Putin in Moscow. This three-hour meeting was part of a diplomatic initiative aimed at advocating for a ceasefire in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, amidst impending sanctions from the Trump administration.

After the meeting with Witkoff, Trump characterized the discussions as “highly productive.” He expressed optimism regarding future initiatives to conclude the conflict, stating that there is a “very good prospect” for progress.

“We had some very good talks with President Putin today, and there’s a very good chance that we could be ending – the ending, the road ending, the end of that road,”

Trump remarked in the Oval Office regarding the potential for a summit.

“That road was long and continues to be long, but there’s a good chance that there will be a meeting very soon,”

he added.
