Anderlecht looks to secure UEFA Conference League group stage spot against Sheriff Tiraspol

Anderlecht faces Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday in the UEFA Conference League. Coach Besnik Hasi aims to reach the group stages despite pressure following a loss to Häcken. Key players include Dolberg, Vazquez, and Bertaccini, reports 24brussels.

As reported by GVA News, Anderlecht will compete against Moldovan team Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday, August 7, 2025, in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Four years ago, Sheriff gained attention by defeating Real Madrid 2-1 in the Champions League, yet they remain considered a weaker team in European football.

Historically dominant in their league, Sheriff Tiraspol recently lost their title to Milsami Orhei last season. Officials assert that Anderlecht boasts a stronger lineup, with the combined value of just four players exceeding that of the entire Sheriff squad. Consequently, Anderlecht is favored to secure a win in this matchup.

What challenges does Anderlecht face after Häcken’s loss in the UEFA race?

Following their defeat to Häcken in the Europa League, Anderlecht feels significant pressure, complicating their path to advancing in European competition this season. Doubts about their continental capabilities have arisen, and Coach Besnik Hasi acknowledges the stress on the team. He notes that their subpar performance in the previous match has heightened challenges.

“We want and need to reach that league stage,”

Hasi stated.

“It wouldn’t be good for us if we didn’t play in the European Championship.”

Hasi reported that nearly all his players will be available for the match against Sheriff, with only Sardella and newcomer Yasin Ozcan unavailable. Recently acquired Huerta will participate, providing Hasi with additional options. He emphasized the importance of player focus and collaboration as essential to achieving success.

Hasi also reminded the squad that prioritizing Anderlecht is vital for their performance, noting a lack of concentration in the previous game against Häcken that adversely affected their play. He praised Stroeykens for his focus and mental strength, but for now, Hazard is the preferred choice due to his improved form.

The competition for starting positions in the forward line is fierce, with Dolberg, Vazquez, and Bertaccini vying for recognition. Although Bertaccini made an impact as a substitute against Cercle Brugge, Coach Hasi believes he still requires time to adapt to Anderlecht’s style. This season, the club has brought in eight new players, giving Hasi a wealth of options ahead of the match against Sheriff Tiraspol.

Anderlecht is one of Belgium’s most distinguished football clubs, boasting a storied history of achievements both domestically and in European competitions. Over the years, they have nurtured numerous talented players and consistently participated in UEFA tournaments. However, recent seasons have posed significant challenges, highlighted by inconsistent performances and early exits from European competitions.

Meta found liable for illegally collecting menstrual health data from Flo users

California Jury Rules Against Meta for Eavesdropping on Health Data

A California jury has found that Meta unlawfully collected user health data from the Flo period-tracking app, violating the state’s wiretap law. The ruling concludes a lawsuit initiated in 2021, in which users accused Flo, Google, Meta, and analytics company Flurry of harvesting their private menstrual health information without consent for targeted advertising, reports 24brussels.

Despite Flo’s commitment to maintaining user confidentiality, the lawsuit claimed that Flo allowed Meta and Google to eavesdrop on in-app communications between November 2016 and February 2019, breaching California’s Invasion of Privacy Act. The cases against Flo, Google, and Flurry were settled prior to trial, with Meta remaining the sole defendant.

On Monday, the jury determined that evidence demonstrated Meta had “intentionally eavesdropped on and/or recorded conversations using an electronic device,” unbeknownst to Flo app users. Although financial damages remain undecided, penalties for each infraction of the California Invasion of Privacy Act could be as high as $5,000, with the lawsuit representing “millions” of affected Flo users.

Lead trial attorneys Michael P. Canty and Carol C. Villegas commented, “This verdict sends a clear message about the protection of digital health data and the responsibilities of Big Tech. Companies like Meta that covertly profit from users’ most intimate information must be held accountable.”

Meta has expressed disagreement with the verdict and is expected to appeal the decision. In a statement, the company asserted, “We vigorously disagree with this outcome and are exploring all legal options. The plaintiffs’ claims against Meta are simply false. User privacy is important to Meta, which is why we do not want health or other sensitive information, and why our terms prohibit developers from sending any.”
