Despite facing economic challenges, Croatia’s transition to the euro has been largely successful, experts assert. The country’s officials noted improvements in inflation management compared to previous years, with forecasts indicating a calmer economic outlook. “These packages were presented by the government as part of the response to the energy crisis, but as they partially coincided with the euro changeover, consumers to some extent probably perceived them as euro-inflation buffers,” said Sorić, highlighting consumer perceptions during the currency transition, reports 24brussels.
Bulgaria’s improved position in handling inflation was emphasized, with a stronger ability to monitor price changes and address unfair retail practices. This reflects a more stabilized economic environment as compared to 2023.

Moreover, the Croatian National Bank estimates that the nation saves approximately €160 million annually in exchange and transaction costs. “Croatia has felt all the expected benefits of euro area membership, despite the fact that we joined the euro area in very challenging times,” Šabić remarked. She cautioned, however, about the importance of “detailed and timely planning” and a “clear division of tasks and responsibilities among the institutions involved” to maintain stability and manage potential dysfunction.
As Croatia navigates its new economic landscape, the overall sentiment remains optimistic regarding euro adoption, indicating that the country is gradually integrating into the eurozone while addressing challenges effectively.
