Halving of staff thought to be precursor to campaign pledge of shutting down the agency

With Ukraine signed up to the US ceasefire plan, the pressure is now on the Kremlin to decide if it will also accept President Trump’s proposals to bring the Ukraine war to a halt, albeit a temporary one.

Those affected will be placed on administrative leave starting next Friday, March 21.

House Republicans narrowly passed a short-term spending bill on Tuesday, aiming to prevent a partial government shutdown set for this weekend.
Investigators found a long history of near misses in the area near Washington’s Ronald Reagan airport where a passenger jet and a US army helicopter collided in January, killing 67 lives.

The staff reductions are the latest effort by the Trump administration to decrease the federal government’s role in education.
The Department of Education is laying off half of its employees, and closing its offices for the rest of Tuesday and all of Wednesday. A panel joins “The Hill on NewsNation” to discuss what this means for the agency now.
