The order will protect some 625 million acres of ocean along America’s Atlantic and Pacific coasts, the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska’s Bering Sea.

The House’s top Democrat made it clear his party won’t respond as Republicans did on Jan. 6, 2021. “There are no election deniers on our side of the aisle,” Hakeem Jeffries said.

In response to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot four years ago, Congress passed new rules to govern the presidential certification process. Those rules will be in effect Monday.
